Dr Almas Mazigo and Dr Julius Mngumi organized the celebration of the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA) 2022 at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) from 12th to 14th April 2022. This 3-day IYAFA 2022 celebration event was organized through the Centre for Social and Political Research (CSPR) in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries (Tanzania), FAO Tanzania, and the IYAFA 2022 National Steering Committee in order to (a) recognize and celebrate the contributions of small-scale fisheries (SSF) sector to food security and economy, (b) engage some state and non-state actors in evidence-based advocacies and dialogues to enlighten them about the important contributions of Small Scale Fisheries, and (c) create space for small-scale fisheries stakeholders to showcase some products and services that can contribute to solving some challenges in the SSF sector and create opportunities for actors in small-scale fisheries and aquaculture. About 320 small-scale fishers and stakeholders (i) listened and asked questions to presenters of five keynote speeches, (ii) participated in eight science-policy-practice dialogues, (iii) learned from exhibitions of various innovative products and services by commercial banks, social protection and insurance agencies, private companies, NGOs, and research institutions, (iv) participated in the fish-consumption campaign.
